University of Melbourne Baillieu Library Reading Room Relocation

University of Melbourne Baillieu Library Reading Room Relocation

We are engaged to look into the relocation of the existing Reading Room at the Baillieu Library (level 3 north) approx. 1100m2. With the recent completion of the new Arts West project, there is now a driver to relocate the Rare Book Reading Room to be positioned closer to the Digital Arts Studio and have a second physical connection between the two buildings. This allows are more immediate connection for students between their teaching space and the Reading Room. The Reading Room is a highly secure space with visual connection of students is of the utmost importance. We are providing a 50% larger Reading Room, larger staff offices (for the Reading Room), secure holding rooms, secure storage for the Australian collection of the Rare Book Collection. There were numerous detailed audits of the existing $100M Rare Book Collection to better understand what the storage requirements are for each collection which then fed back into our layouts for the storage of the Australian Collection.
